New TMB Athete - Ben Schumacher Leads Boulder's Undefeated Fairview Knights

Boulder's (CO) Fairview Knights
Ben Schumacher, QB, has led his
team to a 7 and 0 record this season.

TMB is proud to boast and welcome the arrival of Ben Schumacher, QB from Fairview High School in Boulder, CO.  Ben has led the Knights to an undefeated season going into this week's game vs the equally undefeated Fort Collins Lambkins.  Ben is a leader.  He is really fast, very athletic and powerful.  He runs both the double wing and spread formations for the Knights (Coach Tom McCartney keeps opponents guessing).  Ben ran for 101 yards and threw for 153 yards and scored two touchdowns last week in the Knight's 63 - 21 drubbing of Northglenn High School.

"Physically, Ben has excelled in football. Ben is the starting Quarterback and leads the Front Range Conference in all-purpose yards. Ben has thrown for over 300 yards in a game and rushed for 100 plus yards in a game. Ben is on the weight room record board for strength (Bench press, Back, squat and Power clean) and speed (40 yard dash). However, I am most proud of Ben because of his integrity. He is a man of his word. His 'yes' means 'yes' and his 'no' means 'no' and Ben is a balanced person. I believe in Ben Schumacher."

Tanner Nehls Moves Up With Solid Play

Tanner Nehls takes a catch for 25 yards against
Marshall High School in Houston, TX.

Who's hot?  Tanner Nehls from Travis High School in Richmond, TX, that's who.  After playing guard his junior year at under 190 lbs., Nehls off-season training is paying off as his speed, strength, power, and athleticism has vaulted him into a legitimate NCAA Division I FCS prospect, if not Division I itself.  Nehls now stands at 6 feet 2.5 inches, 220 lbs., has 4.7 speed (timed at Texas State University), 4.36 Pro Agility (timed at CSU), and benches 185 lbs. 25 times.  To put it completely accurately, Nehls is dominating his opponents in one of the toughest football regions in the U.S.A - Houston, TX.  Nehls and the Tigers launched the Fall season with at 3 and 0 run for the first time in Travis football history.

To quote Offensive Line Coach Matt Farmer, and Travis High Head Coach Randy Cunningham, "Tanner has developed into one of the most well-rounded TE’s in the Houston area. His playing experience on the OL last year shows in his dominant blocking of DEs and LBs. Through 3 games of the season, he has graded out the highest of all the OL/TE group and has outperformed several DI caliber defensive players. His pass catching ability shows on film and he has displayed an ability to run after the catch." Not bad for an athlete that has been completely under the recruiting radar not only in Texas, but all over the country.

Nehls game video looks like a season of highlights.  It is his time...RIGHT NOW...so college coaches better get him cause HE's HOT!

Firebirds Roll 49-13 on Cox 7 Thursday
Cox Game of the Week - Recap

Chaparral's (Scottsdale, AZ) Brendan Murphy, Number 29

Horizon's best chance for a score in the first half came on their first drive but the Huskies missed a field goal and Chaparral turned in 42 unanswered points to give Horizon their second loss of the year 49-13 on the Cox 7 game of the week.

The Firebirds marched down and scored on a Connor Brewer play action fake to take the early 7-0 lead. Brewer connected with WR Alex Holmes for a 30 yard gain on the drive. The RB tandem of Dwayne Garrett and Cole Tyree added two more scores before halftime and Chaparral controlled the game 22-0.

Garrett's earlier TD came from 53 yards out and on the second play of the second half, he raced in from 71 yards out. PAT was no good and Chap was up 28-0.  Garrett added another score in the third and Brewer hooked up with Danny Trittler from 42 yards out to make the score 42-0 in the 3rd and clearly in control.

Horizon finally got on the board when Matt Jones rushed for a score.  Chaparral's Brendan Murphy returned the kickoff 91 yards for Chap's final score. Nate Defreitas had a short rushing TD late.

Season Is Here

Reported by Ryan Mullaney -

This morning I rode our treacherous mountain bike ride - even did the ten sprints - even took a detour up one of the "Not an Outlet" turns that lasted over 3 miles.  I did it by myself. This morning Jake Sewolt's departure for Bridgton Academy in Maine signals the last athlete to leave for training camp.

No, I'm not having a maudlin moment - our summer program is over and we begin in-season training in a few weeks.  Actually, quite the contrary; I'm excited for our athletes as they close out summer training and head off to their athletic destinies (sorry Bill Yearsley - academic as well).  Here are some exciting notes:

  • Jerry Howard of Biokats and Rocky Preps, and Ryan Mullaney have contracted with ESPN Radio for one year for a high school prep radio show.  It will basically be a live reporting mechanism for Rocky Preps - scores, stats, interviews with coaches. players and the like.  It is called "The Rock with Jerry and The Coach".
  • Jeff Yearsley tested as the second strongest at RPI - Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute.  He did 305 four times in bench, vertical jumped 33 inches, shuttle timed 4.4 - if you've ever been around Jeff, you know the rest of the story for Jeff - he's a stud.
  • Maciah Herbert is starting at safety after transferring from Evergreen High School to Mission Viejo High School in California.  Nice move as Mission Viejo HS is a top 20 ranked program in the nation.
  • Trent Butler followed suit as he transferred from EHS to Eastlake in Seattle, WA.  Trent is starting at Strong Safety, A Back, and alternating at Tailback as well.
  • Trevor Olson has transferred to Cathedral High School in Los Angeles where he will play QB and throw to two of the top receivers in the U.S.
  • Jake Sewolt - see above - Jake will test this Thursday.
  • Jerry Slota - fighting for the third job at QB at CU.
  • Alex Fricke - Starting at QB and OLB for Evergreen High School - coaches are very impressed with him.
  • Chance Cumming - is at the University of New Mexico right now.  We will get updates on Chance throughout the year.  Good luck Chance!
Now for Texas guys - get ready cause these guys can play:
  • Earl Smith, Tanner Nehls, Madisson Milner, and Alex Brown just finished their third week of practice at Travis High School.
  • The Travis High School football squat had its first inter-squat scrimmage and faired well against a nearby high school.  For you out of staters, Texas get two scrimmages against opponents prior to the season opener.
  • All of these young men are going to raise their recruiting stock this season as a lot of eyes are on them.  They will meet the challenge.

South Dakota - TMB's most populated state with athletes:
  •  Over eighty participants in this summer's conditioning and training program.
  • Currently building the "recruiting" business there as all were enrolled as "athletes".  No recruits to date.
  • Shining star - Brian Long - DE Pierre High School - the kid's a stud.

Personal Note - thanks to everyone that participated in our program this last year.  Thanks for all your hard work.  You definitely know what it takes now to make it to the next level.  Some of you loved it.  Some of you hated it.  Some of you walked from it. You all got to taste what it takes to make it.  I thank all of you for your participation and companionship.

Fall Season Is Here!

TMB Athletes Are Ready to Rock!

The Football Season is right around the corner and TMB Athletes are putting the finishing touch on summer training.  You gotta love some of these guys.  Here are some interesting facts:

  1. Brian Long of South Dakota competed in the junior power lifting competition in New Jersey.  As a to be junior Brian is 6'1" and 215 lbs of solid rock.  He will be a Division I prospect if he gets good coaching this year and can keep his current developmental pace.  He is a linebacker and tough as nails.
  2. Earl Smith of Travis HS in Texas wowed them at the University of Texas, San Antonio.  He is sure to garner an offer during the season.  Earl slimmed down, got stronger and faster working with Coach Farmer in the weight room and with Jay Barnett of TMB Beastmode Texas.
  3. Alex Brown slimmed down from 280 lbs to 259 lbs.; got his feet to move; got stronger; and got moved to center full time.  He looks to be a promising center prospect out of Travis in TX as well.
  4. Travis TE Tanner Nehls has worked his developmental track like none other as he continues to grow as he approaches 220 lbs.; gets bigger, faster and stronger.  Tanner has his sights on Division IAA and he most likely can attain his goal.
  5. Madisson Milner is a beast.  His development this summer is fat to muscle, quickness and a punch that will rock Southwest Houston as a member of Travis as well.
  6. Evergreen's Trevor Olson turned heads at Colorado State, Florida, San Diego State, the Ultimate 100 combine in Los Angeles and pulled his weight up to 213 lbs.
  7. Alex Fricke of Evergreen is rotating 6 positions in camp and is showing himself to be an awesome utility player.  Alex could pass the 180 lb mark as his strength continues to grow and his speed complements his abilities.
  8. Trent Butler tore his miniscus and gained about 10 lbs of fat.  As soon as he was ready to go he converted all the fat to muscle and conditioned twice a day.  He is ready to conquer at the rb and slot receiver position.  Unbelievable recovery.
  9. Jeff Yearsley is going to report for his inaugaral season at RPI, a great NCAA football program out of Troy, NY.  Jeff is pushing 220 up from 188 last November as he set the Evergreen High School bench press at 365 lbs.  Jeff is an awesome TMB story.
  10. Jake Sewolt has gone from 188 lbs to 208 lbs. as he gets ready for Bridgton Academy in Maine.  Jake's goal, play Division I or IAA coming out of one of the top prep schools in the U.S.  He will play slot receiver or strong safety or both.
  11. Joe Hemschoot will start at QB at Lakewood HS in Lakewood, CO.  His first time playing QB ever in HS.  He is one of Colorado's best LB candidates as well.  Joe has gone beastmode in his training this summer and has attended camps at QBR in California, Colorado State, and Colorado.  Joe is a top student at Lakewood and could easily make his way to the Colonial and Patriot Leagues in the NCAA.  Joe worked in with TMB in his development of mechanics as a QB.

There are a hundred tales to tell for all the TMB athletes, especially the younger athletes.  We wish them all well as they trudge the road to collegiate aspirations.
