Tanner Nehls is ProspectFIT Athlete of the Year

Nehls

RICHMOND, Texas — This time last year, Tanner Nehls was just hoping for a chance to play NCAA Division-3 football.

As a high school junior, Nehls was a pulling guard who was crafty about not getting caught holding. He weighed less than 190 pounds soaking wet, and ran a 5-something 40.

It seemed like even D3 football might be a long shot.

With National Signing Day less than two weeks from today, the senior TE from Travis High School in Richmond Texas now faces an entirely different problem.

A problem, that is, if you believe in nice problems to have. The new problem is which college football program to choose.

This month alone, Nehls has entertained five Division-1 FCS scholarship offers from a list of colleges that includes Stony Brook University (NY), Wagner University (NY), Midwestern State University (TX). His physical development has made all the difference.

And that development has earned him ProspectFIT Athlete of the Year honors for 2009.

Nehls (6-foot-2, 232 pounds) is bigger and stronger, and he’s improved his 40 time to 4.7 seconds.

That’s right. One year. A gain of nearly 50 pounds. An improvement of nearly half a second on his 40 time.

The difference is real. Congratulations to Tanner Nehls, ProspectFIT's 2009 Athlete of the Year.

Some athletes just get out and are exposed to the recruiting world of collegiate football teams completely under the radar. Viewmont High School's Brennon Flannery is one of those prospects.  This is a towering young QB with a sling-shot and tremendous accuracy when he throws the football.  As a state qualifying level hurdler, Brennon has surprising speed with his feet.  His reads and his delivery are near perfect.

Brennon has mastered the West Coast Concepts and the reads to deliver the ball to open receivers.  His completion percentages are some of the highest in the state of Utah.  This young man will make some college football team very happy to get him at such a late date in the recruiting process for 2009 graduating in 2010.  He is a very good student, a pillar of the school community having great character, and he comes highly recommended by his coaches.

Here is what his high school Coach has to say about Brennon:

From Thal Wright - Viewmont High School Head Track Coach and Football Coach on Brennon:

I have known Brennon for over three years. Within that time I have been his football coach. I have also coached Brennon in track where he has competed in sprints and javelin. I have had the opportunity to visit with him on several occasions regarding his future as an athlete and furthering his education.

Brennon has had the opportunity to play QB in high school. He has expressed a great interest in giving himself a shot at playing in college. He is 6'5" and has a frame that a college program could put more muscle mass on. He has a strong arm, fairly quick release, smart with reads and is a solid pocket passer. He does have the ability to scramble/rollout (best going to his right). He has been well liked by his teammates.

Brennon has put himself in a position for some great educational endeavors. He is an ambassador for our school, was a student of the month and has a 3.563 GPA. I am recommending him to the institute of his application on the grounds that he is ready to take that next progressive step. He is goal oriented and holds himself to a high standard in the classroom and in his personal life. Brennon is an individual capable of accomplishing some fantastic goals. Thank you for this chance to write on Brennon's behalf. It is truly an honor to be able to recommend him for his desired position. Feel free to contact me for more information.

Alex Fricke Emerges As Academic Collegiate Prospect

Alex Fricke Literally "Grows" Into Collegiate Prospect For High Academic Colleges

6'0" - 190 lbs. - 3.5 GPA (Weighted AP Courses) 25 ACT

Alex Fricke is a late prospect to the collegiate recruiting ranks.  After a year in the weight room and on the track, Alex has transformed his body into muscle and has increased his speed substantially.  Alex played QB, CB, SS, DE, LB, WR, and RB for the Cougars of Evergreen High School (Primary on QB - he filled voids on his team at multiple positions).  Alex is a smart QB making exceptional reads out of the spread offense, delivering with great ball speed and tremendous with accuracy.

Alex is mobile as well as a fierce competitor.  He is a high achieving student in advanced courses and will make a high academic college very happy as a "low risk" player with many versatile assets.

He is a smart QB and understands the game which translates into great plays.  Alex is above all a playmaker as his fierce competitive nature leads his team to scores and stops in critical situations on offense and defense.

Alex was voted to the Colorado All-State All-Academic team as well as placing on the All-Conference team on defense as well.
